MSR 2025: recognition for Luis Soeiro and the CNI Cyber Chair

The CNI Cyber Chair is proud to highlight Luis Soeiro, a PhD student involved in our work. From April 28 to 29, 2025, Luis had the opportunity to attend and participate in the MSR 2025 (Mining Software Repositories) international conference in Ottawa, Canada. Every year, this event brings together the best researchers in software engineering and cybersecurity. It’s a unique opportunity to discover the innovations shaping the future of this field.

MSR: a major international conference

La conférence MSR est organisée par deux grandes institutions :The MSR conference is organized by two major institutions:

It is is a colocated conference that’s held at the same time as ICSE, the world’s largest conference dedicated to software engineering. Every year, researchers and experts from all over the world come together to share their ideas. They discuss current challenges and explore new technologies that are changing software design and security.

Useful research for cybersecurity

Luis Soeiro had the opportunity to present a paper on his research work at the event, entitled “Wild SBOMs: a Large-scale Dataset of Software Bills of Materials from Public Code”. This work is in line with the priorities of the CNI Cyber Chair. It contributes to improving the security of software chains.

The study provides a large dataset of SBOMs (Software Bills of Materials). These data enable precise identification of the components used in software. This makes it easier to identify vulnerabilities and better manage the risks associated with third-party software. This is a major challenge when it comes to protecting critical infrastructures.

A place for exchange and collaboration

At the conference, Luis attended several presentations on vulnerability detection, software security and artificial intelligence. The latter topic, in particular large language models (LLMs), is increasingly present in research.

These meetings enabled him to forge links with other researchers. The exchanges were rich and open the door to future collaborations. This just goes to show how important face-to-face discussions are to scientific progress.

« I met lots of people, asked lots of questions and discussed future collaborations. Imagine sitting down at a random table and chatting with some of the researchers present. Then you realize that they’ve written articles that you’ve not only already read, but also considered references in your field. This has happened to me several times. »

Recognition for the CNI Cyber Chair

Luis Soeiro’s presence at MSR 2025 demonstrates the quality of the research carried out by the CNI Cyber Chair. It also highlights the commitment of our doctoral students to high-impact projects.

This recognition reinforces the Chair’s position as a key player in cybersecurity research. It confirms our essential role in protecting critical systems and infrastructures.
