Marc-Oliver Pahl’s keynote at the IDSA Winter School on “Cybersecurity as the central challenge for next mobility”
On Dec 8, 2021, our chairholder Marc-Oliver Pahl gave a keynote about “Cybersecurity as the central challenge for next mobility” at the Data Sharing winter school organized by the International Dataspaces Organization and the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future. Autonomous driving, smart cities, and intermodal transport are likely to be the reality of many people in the near future. Inherent to these applications is that they collect data from us, the citizens, and the users of the technology; they process the data in different ways; and, they can physically affect us by protecting us in traffic, providing us adaptive light, or offering assistance in the positive sense and in the negative sense create accidents potentially with fatalities, not adapting city systems to the citizens potentially causing accidents, or making our lives not easier but harder.
After briefly introducing the scene, I will talk about recent attacks, their threat vectors, effects, and potential evolutions. I will talk about risk analysis and methods to improve the cybersecurity of future smart data processing systems.

About the Data Sharing Winter school
Next Mobility – Smart Data Sharing to Moving Goods and People
Data spaces – the secret sauce of the data economy
When it comes to the digital transformation of the economy, the provision and sharing of data in data spaces are at the center of the discussion.
Europe wants to accelerate the digital transformation with the use of data and meaningful approaches to data sharing. Expectations are high: The future viability of our entire EU economy is at stake.
This is a perfect time for you to learn more about data sharing and topics like interoperability, data sovereignty and data usage control as success factors for data spaces.
New mobility
One sector will transform like no other: mobility. Autonomous driving, smart cities, intermodal transport – unthinkable without data sharing.
In 12 sessions, experts will present new technologies, scientists will talk about the state of research, and practitioners will show innovative mobility solutions to urban problems, such as the Mobility Data Space, one of Europe’s lighthouse projects.
You will deepen your knowledge on data sharing, connect with renowned experts and accelerate your career in the data economy of the future.
About the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future
The German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future is a strategic vehicle to promote close collaboration between leading European research institutions and industrial companies. It was founded by the French Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT) and the German Technical University of Munich (TUM). Focused on joint research, education and innovation, the Academy’s mission is to master the challenges accompanying the increasing digitalization of industry processes.
About the International Data Spaces Oganization
The International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) is a coalition of more than 130 member companies that share a vision of a world where all companies self-determine usage rules and realize the full value of their data in secure, trusted, equal partnerships; and we are making that vision a reality.
Our goal is nothing less than a global standard for international data spaces (IDS) and interfaces, as well as fostering the related technologies and business models that will drive the data economy of the future across industries.
