Marc-Oliver Pahl reappointed as president of the German Chapter of the ACM

Marc-Oliver Pahl, chairholder of he Cyber CNI Chair, the largest industrial chair in cybersecurity in France, has been re-elected President of the German Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for a second and final term covering the period 2026–2027. This re-election sends a strong signal. It demonstrates the confidence placed in his work and leadership during his previous term.

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the largest association of computer professionals. Being in an elevated position in this organization is of high strategic relevance for the chair.

Proven leadership within the German Chapter of the ACM

In this new term, Marc-Oliver Pahl continues his commitment to strengthening the computer science community. He works alongside the Executive Board, composed of Gerhard Müller (Vice-Chairperson), Philipp Dahlke (Secretary), and Axel Kern (Treasurer).

Together, they are strengthening the impactrole of Europe in the global informatics society. The organization promotes the responsible and socially beneficial use of information technology. It is active at both the national and international levels. In addition, the German Chapter fosters dialogue between research, industry, and public institutions.

Digital Sovereignty at the heart of the 2026–2027 mandate

The new mandate focuses on the theme of Digital Sovereignty and the effects of AI on society and our profession. This choice reflects the growing importance of strategic autonomy and trust in digital infrastructures.

In addition, cybersecurity plays a central role in this approach. It directly affects research, industry, and public policy. As such, scientific communities play a key role in building reliable digital ecosystems.

A strategic position in the international IT ecosystem

The German Chapter is the oldest national chapter of the ACM. It therefore occupies a special position within the world’s largest organization dedicated to computer science.

In addition, Marc-Oliver Pahl is also a member of the Council of theGesellschaft für Informatik (GI). This organization is the sister structure of the ACM in Germany. His involvement thus extends to several major scientific governance bodies, giving the chair both : visibility on the international stage and input for its development.
