Julius BÜNGER, Keeping software in massive IoT installations up-to-date
Julius’s thesis will provide solutions to ease the IoT device recycling. An object may become unusable for several reasons, for example a hardware failure, no more energy from the battery or obsolete functions. In that case, it is important to decommission the device, and recycle it. One solution for recycling is to re-use the object in a different application or deployment, if it embeds the necessary functions. It can also be disassembled and its parts can be sent to different recycling industry. In order to make this possible, we need to address the issues of localization, keep-alive,classification and security.

About the research updates at the partners
The chair Cybersecurity for Critical Networked Infrastructures (CyberCNI.fr) has currently six industrial partners: Airbus, Amossys, BNP Paribas, EDF, Nokia, SNCF. There is continuous exchange between the PhD students and the partners. Every six months, there is an additional research update (spring/fall) event that provides the opportunity to see all running works together. In addition, research updates are done with and at specific partners.
The advantage of such an event is having even more people from the respective company present. This permits interesting discussions and regularly leads to even more people following the works of the chair.
Nicolas' research focuses on virtual reality for cybersecurity. He specificlly look how Immersive Analytics can improve cyberawareness and performences of cybersecurity experts. With the chair and its cutting edge immersive technologie, he works on inteactions between humans, datas, and algorithm in order to put the human in loop for better decision making.
